Change is in the Air
Is your child struggling with change? Is there a change in routine, a new student in your child’s class, a substitute teacher, or a school break? Whatever the change is, change can be hard. Some children, teens and adults are better at change than others. Think about your first big change in school? How did you handle it? Was someone there to guide you through it?
Everyone has different strengths and different challenges. That is a normal and natural part of life. So if your child is struggling with change, the first step is to remember that it is okay! As you normalize change, this can help your child follow your lead. The more open you are about talking about different challenges, the more comfortable your child will feel about opening up to you about their struggles.
Here at The Bari Group, LLC we understand change, because we are going through some big changes as well. We are taking on this new adventure, to connect with and support all of you. We are creating safe spaces while learning how to design websites!
When changes are decided for you, you may feel a loss of control. As a child, almost everything is decided for you, so change is one more thing that may cause the feeling of helplessness. When we think back to how we felt as children, it can help remind us what they are going through now.
Change is a normal and natural part of life. That is the mantra we need to repeat. That allows adults and children to feel their feelings, be open and come through on the either side. Change will occur often, more often than we may like, but you and your child are not alone. We all experience change. And remember, you have the power to help your child experience change in a positive and healthy way!
